22 Things You Should Know Before Dating A Teacher

As teachers, we have a great passion for our work: we spend extra hours at school, we become attached to our students, and parents have even called us when we’re at home. Spending 8 hours per day for 9 months out of the year with these kids has made them a part of our lives.

Before dating us, you must know that as a teacher, work will never stay at work:

  1. We love things like glitter, stickers, bows, and markers.
  2. Going to Michaels or Staples is a life changing event…
  3. You might as well drop us off and pick us up in 3 hours.
  4. We use terms like totes, preggers, and MFEO (for anyone who doesn’t work with teenagers: Made For Each Other).
  5. We have the best stories,
  6. And will come home with cards, crafts, and jewelry that our kids made for us.
  7. Yes, we refer to them as our kids,
  8. And you will get to know them.
  9. When we talk about our days, you will actually find yourself asking, “So…what did little Bella do today?”
  10. Paint in our hair? No big deal.
  11. We might flinch if we hear you curse –
  12. We can’t turn that off.
  13. Your/you’re, there/their/they’re, farther/further, less/fewer, good/well…
  14. Don’t even get us started. We will give you a grammar lesson.
  15. “Week nights” are “school nights”
  16. And no, we won’t be going out.
  17. Don’t even get us started on Halloween.
  18. It’s the most epic day of the school year.
  19. And yes, we will be dressing up.
  20. If you’re ever stuck on a Birthday or Christmas gift for us, you’ve got this: post-its, highlighters, colored pens = GOLD.
  21. And just FYI: There is such a thing as a pirate fairy.
  22. Duh.
