The 6 thoughts you have when you don't have to go back to school this fall

You've spent a long time in school. You wrote the long and dreadful essays, you've stayed up all night cramming for a midterm, and you've drunk your sorrows away after a particularly bad mark.

University is the time of your life. You hated it while you were in it, but now that you don't have to go back, you're faced with an endless stream of mixed emotions.

1. No more money spent on textbooks you’ll never use!

The first week back at school is when you get your syllabus and book lists. Then, you promptly go to the bookstore, purchase a book likely over $100, and then never touch it again.

What a waste. So now you can spend your money on frivolous things instead!

2. But you have student debt so you actually don’t have money to spend on frivolous things

Your student loan is actually quite large. You never really had to think about it until you finished school. Now it’s this big massive weight on your shoulders, so you can’t really spend money on what you actually want.

3. You can finally be a real adult

Being a real adult is something that you’ve been wanting to do forever. You can get the nice apartment, decorate it to your liking, maybe get a pet, have a routine, have a lovely adult drink. The options are endless.

4. You realize being a real adult means paying bills and having less than satisfactory responsibilities and you forgot that student life is THE best life

You start scrolling through your Instagram and find all the photos of orientation weeks and first day back at school photos. You then start to reminisce about the good old days, which weren’t all that long ago. Student life really was the best life, and now you wish you were going back.

5. Now is the time to start fresh and new

Maybe you moved away from your hometown or the city you went to school in. It’s time to start fresh. Start a new job, make new friends, live your life. It’s a new and exciting chapter!

6. But you start to miss your old university and college friends. Who likes change?

You start to realize all the things about your hometown or university city that were so comfortable. Change is good, but change is also a little nerve wracking.

It’s clear that the road to adulthood is terrifying and full of mixed emotions. No matter what you’re feeling, you just have to remember to keep your head up, your mind clear and full of positive possibilities.
