I Thought We’d Always Be Best Friends

Time and circumstances have separated us beyond recognition.

You are someone I now know nothing of. You are a complete stranger who avoids looking me in the eyes when we happen to be at the same place, at the same time. I never thought we’d ever be so awkward and tense around each other, because for the longest time, I thought we’d always be best friends.

We were incredibly naïve, making dumb pacts and promising forever to each other. We were only 18 at the time, and barely figuring our own lives out. How could we have known that, even after six years of friendship, we wouldn’t make it a year into college?
