If we fell in love according to our favorite television shows, all of our lives would be full of sweeping gestures and romance galore.
Unfortunately, that’s not the way it seems to be. Actually, that’s not the way it is at all. Love isn’t always what we see on a screen.
Love is imperfect, and sometimes people really do walk away because you have anxiety or battle depression.
It isn’t all yellow daisies and second chances. Sometimes when people leave, they really leave and don’t come back.
You don’t meet the love of your life in a way that you’ll remember forever—and your first date will probably be awkward as hell.
He doesn’t always pick you.
He’s not going to drop everything to be there for you at all hours of the day. Honestly, he’ll spend a lot of his time playing video games or sleeping instead of bringing your bouquets of flowers and sending you cute text messages.
Chances are, he will not stand outside your window with a boom box. Or fist bump for you cause he knows he got the girl. Or chase you through an airport because he needs to profess his love for you.
Sometimes, he won’t even love you at all.
But despite all of this, love is love. It may not be like the shows. We may not get everything our favorite characters receive, but we do get to feel our hearts flutter after people, and fall hard.
We meet the people who are all that we need in our lives and more. They complete us in ways we didn’t know needed to be completed.
Your story will be unique, it will be imperfect, it will be yours.
It may not be anything like what you watch on the daily, but it will be extraordinary just the same. You’ll want to watch the love you have over and over again like your favorite film or binge it like that Netflix show you can’t get enough of.
And that’s all that matters.
