There aren't enough words to describe the rancid taste I experienced when I first saw the awful photo of you holding a fake head of our president covered in blood.
There are not enough horrible words to describe the actions you took to get some attention. And there are nowhere near enough words to describe what an awful person I think you are in this moment.
There is a bold line between comedy and the distasteful, horrific photo you took. You just somersaulted past that line with a huge grin on your face, thinking you were doing something funny or giving a voice to something or someone, somewhere.
I hope my words kick you back over that line.
The fake bloody head of our president you're holding in your photo does not just represent Donald Trump.
It doesn't just represent the President of the United States, the Commander in Chief, the leader of the Free world, etc. (Which all should've given you pause as an American.)
But it also represents a man, a father, a husband, a son, and a friend.
Would you not be absolutely horrified to find a picture like that of someone you care about? Would you not question the mere sanity of the person in the photo? Would you not be outraged at the audacity of said person?
If we, as grown adults, are so appalled by your photo, can you imagine what President Trump's 11 year old son went through seeing that photo? You've traumatized a kid, and for what?
A few headlines? Your name next to the word “trending” on Facebook or Twitter? An article like this?
Politically, what you did was wrong and incorrect on every level. This is the reason liberals have a bad name. This is why liberals are being labeled as intolerant or un-American.
But on the level of one human being to another? What you did was absolutely horrendous and there is no sliver of a doubt that it was wrong. There was no thought for anyone but yourself when you took that photo.
There was no empathy or remorse (until you received the backlash). I'd even go as far as saying there was no brain activity on your part, because who the hell doesn't realize something like that is wrong?
I keep trying to rationalize this in some way. Trying to find a way that you don't turn out to be a horrible person and an awful American. Trying to understand how angry, or desperate for attention you had to be to even think of taking this photo.
But I have yet to find a way to rationalize this.
That's probably because I'm a decent person with morals.
Maybe it's because I'm an American that bleeds red, white, and blue and would never disrespect a president to this extent, no matter how much I disliked him.
Maybe it's because I have a sense of what's wrong and right and do my best to not cross those lines.
Maybe it's because I don't need to be that childish and petty when I disagree with someone or something.
Maybe it's because I have a heart and enough empathy that I wouldn't put a family through that.
Maybe it's because I have enough of a brain to know that you do not joke about beheading the POTUS.
Whatever it may be, it's not in your favor. Apparently a lot of people have these traits and are appalled by your actions, which they are rightfully so.
It doesn't matter which political party they identify as or whether they agree with him or not, the Americans have spoken and are not fans of this “joke”.
Congratulations on uniting America briefly against your stupidity.
Best of Luck,
An Appalled American
