Waking up with a pit in your stomach is all too familiar. Some days, getting out of bed seems impossible. Other days, it’s not even an option. Just the thought of staying under the covers all day with the blinds shut while ignoring the entire outside world puts your mind at ease.
When tomorrow seems daunting and you can’t shake this feeling of a consuming sadness, remember this...
If your biggest accomplishment of the day was simply getting out of bed, then that is okay. If all you are doing is breathing and eating something, no one is going to judge you. No one expects you to be happy-go-lucky all the time.
Sometimes life is hard, harder than you’d ever imagine. But just don’t let that keep you down. There are going to be days that will test your patience and your strength. You may feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders, like you’re going to collapse under all the pressure.
People are going to irritate you for no reason, sounds, smells and every other little thing is going to get under your skin.
It could be him, or her, or even them that are weighing heavily on your heart. It could even be you. You could feel like you’re not enough like you’re a burden to everyone around you.
You aren’t a burden, though, and you never will be.
Remember it’s okay to cry, it is okay to feel sad and it is okay to let yourself feel that emotion. It’s inevitable, all you have to do is accept every feeling as it hits you ride it out. It’s only temporary.
It isn’t okay though, to tell yourself that you aren’t enough, to tell yourself that you are worthless and to feel so terrible about yourself.
I know it’s easier said than done, but you have to learn to take a deep breath and realize that you can’t be a superhero every day.
You see, it’s impossible to be broken forever. It may take some time, longer than you want even, but you will start to rebuild and heal. Even if it’s a slow crawl versus a sprint, you will get there.
An hourglass has to be turned over eventually so the sand doesn’t ever completely run out. Despite how it may feel right now there is always a tomorrow and the sun really will come out again.
I promise you that you are stronger than you believe. When you finally start to heal and look back on these days you’ll realize that being sad didn’t make you weak. It made you human. In fact, it makes you a stronger person because you were able to overcome it.
Take a deep breath. It’s okay to feel lost and confused. It’s okay to not know what path to take. Just know that sometimes your mind tries to play tricks on you, it tries to convince you that you’re not okay when really you are.
Don’t feel bad if you need to ask for help, for someone to listen or just a distraction.
So on the days you wake up and feel sad remember this; you are a bright and wonderful person and you absolutely have the power to get over anything that stands in your way. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
You can be sad one day, but that doesn’t mean you have to be sad every day of your life.
You’re always growing, changing and moving forward. Remind yourself that there are a million reasons to smile when life tries to bring you down. There are people who love you and one bad day doesn’t equal a bad life.
