The world used to be different. This country used to be different. No matter how much hate was out there in the world, love always conquered. But now hate is winning, and that scares the absolute shit out of me.
We can't walk down the road or say something without fearing that someone will be offended to the point that they'll try and harm us. We can't go out and enjoy ourselves without the slight chance that a hate driven maniac will be there to ruin the night.
Hate has taken over our world and it's something that no one should take lightly.
Our current and/or future children have to grow up in this world. A world that will sooner take their lives than let them be who they choose to be or believe what they choose to believe.
A world where innocent people are gunned down at a concert where they were supposed to enjoy themselves. Where even schools aren't a safe place from the hate of the world.
A world where people are beaten to death for simply voicing an opinion that someone else may not agree with. A world where people are being targeted for the color of their skin, the religion they practice, or the job they're paid to do.
This is not a world I want my children to be a part of.
I want the country back that was full of love. The one that gathered together in times of trouble rather than trying to find someone to blame. The country that others looked up to because of their love and strength.
The one where people walked away and moved on if they were offended rather than persecuted the people that had a different opinion. Where people were quick to defend each other rather than fight each other.
The world where being tough meant standing up for what was right rather than kicking the ass of the first person that looked at you wrong. Where people didn't shove their nose in something that didn't involve them or their loved ones.
The world where we tried our best to never judge anyone. Where we tried to understand the opposing views rather than diminish those that supported it.
I want the country back where violence was never the answer. Where love was the biggest and strongest weapon we used against each other. Where hate didn't have a place in the hearts of the people.
The country that was bursting with pride. Where our children grew up being taught respect and dignity. That valued every single person.
I won't settle for a country that lets hate win, because we are so much better than that… we can do so much better than that.
Hate is winning, but I pray to God it doesn't.
