Siblings are one of the biggest blessings that this world can offer us.
Brothers and sisters are often our very first friends. And while this doesn’t automatically mean that the friendship will grow to be strong and everlasting, it sure has for us.
So, I would like to take the opportunity to look back and thank you for a couple of things.
Thank you for letting me tag along with you and your friends.
Okay, maybe Mom and Dad forced you to. But, still, spending time with the “older, cooler kids? always made me feel special.
Thank you for eventually growing to tolerate it and for making me feel included.
Thank you for letting me copy you and only getting moderately annoyed.
Thank you for always defending me.
You may have played jokes on me and made fun of me, but that didn’t mean anyone else was allowed to.
Thank you for sticking up for me when it was necessary and for making me feel like I always had someone in my corner.
Thank you for being a role model for me.
You may not have always realized it, but I was always watching you. I learned from the way you dealt with hardship, the way you handled stress and the way you treated the people around you.
Thank you for setting such a good example for me.
Your kindness, compassion, and grace set the bar very high for me growing up.
Thank you for teaching me about life and love.
From riding a bike to teaching me about the “birds and the bees?. From tying my shoes to helping me get ready for my first date.
Thank you for helping me navigate the awkward waters of puberty. Thank you for listening to me cry after each failed relationship and for threatening to beat up anyone that dared to hurt me.
You have always been fiercely protective of me, and I can look back at it now and really appreciate the things you did to keep the wrong people away from me.
Thank you for helping me grow.
While being the baby has had its perks, you never let that be an excuse for me to not grow up and learn.
Thank you for pushing me to keep up with you. Thank you for showing me how to be a better person.
Thank you for allowing my own passions to evolve and for taking an interest in the person I was becoming.
Thank you for the memories.
Although many of the memories end in me crying and getting you in trouble with our parents, I still look back at them now with a smile and a laugh.
Thank you for being a huge part of my past and an even bigger part of my present. Thank you for the inside jokes that still make my sides hurt from laughter.
Thank you for the stories that we will tell our kids someday about our crazy adventures.
Thank you for being my best friends.
We may not get to choose our family, but we do get to choose if our family will become our friends.
So, thank you for choosing me, not because you had to, but because you wanted to.
Thank you for playing such an important role in my life and for letting me into your world.
You may not realize this, but as your baby sister, my biggest goal has always been to make you proud.
You have always set the bar very high in what it means to be a good person and a hard worker.
Thank you for teaching me that it’s possible to love and forgive each other through every argument and grow stronger from it.
Thank you for teaching me what it means to have people always on my side, through thick and thin, and for always.
And while I may be grown up now, I have never lost that child-like awe and admiration for you.
In my eyes, you are a superhero, and you always will be.
