11 Things to Know Before Dating Someone with a Heartbreaking Past

It is when you’ve realized that you look at the world differently because of your past, do you understand that finding someone who can handle those demons with you is not an easy task.

1. We have trust issues

And these aren’t trust issues formed from a love interest breaking our heart. These trust issues run deep within our veins.

2. We believe we are broken.

And when someone comes around to show us we are not, only then can we give you all we have to offer.

3. Massive walls have been built up.

But when you break them down we will open up in ways you could only imagine. Know that very few have been privileged to see us in all that we are.

4. We may be shy and cautious…

But when we eventually open up, we will love you stronger than any other. All we want is love that won’t hurt us anymore than we have already been hurt.

5. We are very good at hiding those times when the past creeps up

If you sense something is wrong, this is probably what it is. Don’t ask too many questions, just be near us. That comfort helps ease our minds tremendously.

6. When we start telling you small details about our past, listen but don’t pry.

Just know that this was more difficult than you could possibly believe.

7. And when we fully talk to you about what happened…

We don’t want your abundance of sympathy. We just want you to listen.

8. We will put you first.

Will always be thinking of ways to make you smile. Because you make us feel like we have a purpose.

9. But don’t mistake us for being highly dependent

We are stronger than you know and figured out how to take care of ourselves a long time ago.

10. No matter what, we will be fiercely loyal.

We know what it’s like to be given up on and what it’s like to be pushed to the side. We want to believe you will be loyal back.

11. Despite everything…

We want to believe people are good. We will seek out that goodness and show you how to let it shine.
